Other top searched international destinations include Dubai, Singapore, London, Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Abu Dhabi and Hong Kong.
The 79th Independence Day long weekend is proving to be a catalyst for Indian travellers seeking short, impactful escapes. Booking.com data reveals a strong demand for both drive to domestic destinations and easily accessible international mini-cations across the Asia Pacific region. With over half of Indian travellers favouring short domestic trips in 2025, destinations within driving distance of major metros are experiencing a surge in interest. Alibaug, Karjat and Igatpuri near Mumbai, along with Rishikesh and Mussoorie near Delhi, have recorded accommodation search growth of between 40% and 80% compared to the same period last year. Famous favourites such as Lonavala, Jaipur, Mahabaleshwar and Chikmangalur are also seeing strong demand for quick, restoration breaks.
Coastal escapes remain high on the agenda with quieter seaside towns like Varkala and Gokarna, along with perennial favourite Goa, showing a 10%-40% rise in interest. For the period 14-17 August 2025, the most searched domestic destinations on Booking.com were Udaipur, Lonavala, Jaipur, Puducherry, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Bali, Abu Dhabi, Pattaya and Hong Kong. The long weekend has also reinforced the appeal of alternative accommodations.
Homestays, guesthouses, apartments and villas were among the most discovered property types, and matched the findings from the platform that 74% of Indian passengers prefer comfort, flexibility and up -in -the -date experiences from home, especially when travelling with your family.
