Wilson Returns With Tourism Fiji

Tourism Fiji has launched a nostalgic tribute film bringing back Wilson the volleyball from Cast Away as he discovers happiness on the islands of Fiji. The 90-second movie highlights local culture, adventure and community while spotlighting Fiji’s growing screen sector. The campaign aims to mix emotional storytelling with tourism promotion and international film appeal.

Tourism Fiji has released a short tribute film starring Wilson the volleyball, famously featured in the 2000 film Cast Away, marking his fictional return to the highlight 25 years later. Titled Wilson’s Happily Ever After, the 90-second spot follows his arrival on a Fijian beach, where he is found by a young girl, Lani.

The film portrays Wilson’s journey all throughout the islands, from rainforest biking to a traditional kava ceremony, culminating in a return to his volleyball roots. Shot on location at Serenity Island Resort and other scenic backdrops, the campaign aims to evoke an emotional connection while positioning Fiji as a cinematic and cultural destination.

Tourism Fiji CEO Brent Hill said, “Wilson’s Happily Ever After allowed us to showcase the intimate, everyday stories of Fiji. Grounded in heart, beauty, happiness and humanity, the tribute film demonstrates how Fiji embraces travellers and showcases the versatile experiences on offer.”

Directed by James Anderson and produced by Radlab, the project was led by Special PR. As per the Special PR Managing Director, Kelly Grindle. The intention was to offer fans of the original film emotional closure while captivating the spirit of Fiji.

The campaign also casts a spotlight on Fiji’s film industry, which now contributes significantly to the local economy. In 2023-2024, the screen sector supported over 1200 Fijians and collaborated with nearly 300 businesses. International productions also added almost USD 100 million FID to the economy during the year.

The film positions Fiji as not only a destination for leisure but also as a growing hub for global film projects.
