By tackling millions of hashtags, the study highlights how tropical islands like Bali, Santorini and Ibiza dominate the rankings while cityscapes such as Dubai, London and Paris are fast catching up.
Privacy Journal Net has revealed a global ranking of the most photogenic sunset destinations based on social media activity. The research analysed millions of TikTok and Instagram hashtags to determine where travellers most frequently capture and share sunset moments.
Leading Bali, Indonesia, with over 153 million TikTok views for sunset-related content and more than 200,000 Instagram posts.
The island’s amalgamation of clifftop temples, beach bars, and terraced rice fields offers countless vantage points for golden hour photography, solidifying its position as a top draw for content creators and casual travellers alike.
Santorini, Greece, and Ibiza, Spain follow closely behind with 129.4 million and 36.7 million TikTok views, respectively.
Their Mediterranean beauty and accessible viewing spots have made them favourites among European tourists and influencers.
Also, the report reveals that urban centres are increasingly competitive. Dubai, London’s Primrose Hill and Paris all made the top ten, underscoring the visual appeal of sunsets framed by iconic skylines. From the Burj Khalifa’s dual-level sunset viewings to Paris’ riverside glow, these cities show that urban infrastructure is no barrier to natural beauty.
“TikTok has changed how people discover travel destinations,” said a Privacy Journal Net analyst. “The virality of short-form videos is shaping real-world tourism with scenic sunsets offering instant shareability.”The study also highlights a global distribution of sunset hostpots. Entries such as Cape Town, Perth, Key West and Maui reinforce that every continent contributes to the world’s most celebrated sunsets. Locations were assessed not only by volume of posts but also for aesthetic diversity and geographical spread.
Privacy Journal. Net notes that the growing popularity of sunset content on platforms like TikTok and Instagram reflects broader travel behaviour, people are selecting destinations with both visual appeal and online resonance. As travellers continue to chase the perfect dusk-lit shot, this serves as a digital compass pointing toward the world’s most beautiful and most shared sunsets.
