Customers in Qatar can now send money directly to UPI-enabled bank accounts in India through a new remittance service designed to make cross-border transfers faster and more convenient.
The PosTransfer service, powered by the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), was launched through a collaboration between Qatar Post, India Post, the Universal Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform (UPU-IP), and NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL). The service became available in Qatar on August 15, 2026.
How the Qatar-to-India UPI transfer works
Customers can initiate a remittance by visiting participating Qatar Post outlets. They need to provide the recipient's UPI ID in India along with the required identification details.
The recipient in India must activate the facility to receive foreign inward remittances through their UPI application before they can receive the transfer.
Transfer limits and service fee
Under the new facility, customers can transfer between QAR 10 and QAR 4,000 per transaction, subject to a maximum equivalent of ₹1 lakh.
A flat service charge of QAR 15 per transaction applies to the remittance service.
New option for the Indian community in Qatar
The initiative is particularly significant for the large Indian community living and working in Qatar, providing an additional channel to send money to family members and bank accounts in India.
The service combines Qatar's postal network with India's UPI infrastructure, creating a digital route for international remittances while making the process more accessible to customers using Qatar Post outlets.
The launch also represents another step in expanding the international use of India's digital payment infrastructure and strengthening financial connectivity between India and other countries.
With PosTransfer, customers in Qatar now have a UPI-powered option for sending remittances directly to eligible bank accounts in India, potentially making cross-border money transfers simpler and more convenient for the India-Qatar community.
