Maps, routes, luxury trains, travel maps and more: Know all about UAE’s passenger trains
The United Arab Emirates offered a sneak into its highly anticipated passenger trains during the first rail journey between Abu Dhabi city and Al Dhannah region. Photos uploaded recently show the UAE luxury train running through the dune railway line.
Along with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company’s (Adnoc) executive leadership team, Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, was on board the inaugural passenger rail journey.

Etihad Rail and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) signed an agreement to establish rail services between Abu Dhabi city and Al Dhannah in Al Dhafra, in November 2023.
Al Dhannah houses 29,000 residents. About 250km west of Abu Dhabi, the metamorphosis of the rural desert took off in the 1970s when it was identified as the site to dwell Adnoc’s industrial staff population.
The latest partnership will allow, Adnoc staff to travel between Abu Dhabi and Al Dhannah on a train.
Cities webbed on the rail route
The Etihad passenger train will connect from Al Sila to Fujairah, connecting 11 cities in total. Trains will zoom between stations at speeds of up to 200kmph. They will reduce commute time by 30-40 percent compared to other modes of transport. By 2030, the number of passengers is expected to reach more than 36.5 million annually.
Luxury Train- ‘Dream of the Desert’
Last weekend an announcement said a partnership has shaped between Saudi Arabia and Arsenale, an Italian luxury hospitality company to get Dream of the Desert chugging. The same company had penned an agreement with Etihad Rail in May last year to roll out a luxury train experience in the United Arab Emirates. It will run through all the Emirates and expand its wheels to GCC.
The train will run from Abu Dhabi and Dubai to Fujairah, offering views of the mountains on the border with Oman, and the Liwa desert, with its world-famous oasis, featuring 15 luxury carriages.
