The Tian Tan Buddha, commonly known as the Big Buddha, is one of Hong Kong’s most iconic landmarks, located on Lantau Island near the Po Lin Monastery. Completed in 1993, the statue stands at 34 meters (about 112 feet) tall and is made of bronze, making it one of the largest seated outdoor Buddha statues in the world.The statue sits atop a lotus throne on a three-platform altar and faces north, which is unusual for a Buddha statue, as most face south. Visitors must climb 268 steps to reach the base, where they can admire the detailed craftsmanship and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and coastline.
The statue represents the harmonious relationship between man, nature, people, and religion. Inside the base, there is a small museum and relic hall, believed to house a sacred relic of the Buddha. Nearby, the peaceful Po Lin Monastery offers a look into traditional Buddhist practices and architecture.
The area also includes Ngong Ping Village, a cultural-themed village with shops, eateries, and exhibits, as well as access to the Wisdom Path, a spiritual trail featuring wooden columns inscribed with the Heart Sutra. No Changes Allowed: Bookings are final and cannot be modified. This includes changes to the date, time, or number of participants.
No-Shows: Failure to attend the activity at the scheduled time and location will result in the forfeiture of the booking without any refund or credit.
