The Burana Tower is one of the most important historical monuments in Kyrgyzstan, located near the town of Tokmok in the fertile Chuy Valley, about 80 kilometers from Bishkek. Built in the 11th century by the Karakhanid dynasty, the tower originally stood about 45 meters tall. Today, due to centuries of earthquakes and erosion, it rises to around 25 meters, but still holds a commanding presence over the surrounding valley.
The tower was originally constructed as a minaret, part of a grand mosque in the once-thriving Silk Road city of Balasagun. This city served as a major cultural and trading hub where merchants, travelers, and scholars passed through on their journeys between East and West. Today, only ruins remain of Balasagun, but Burana Tower continues to stand as a symbol of that golden era of Silk Road history.
Visitors can climb the spiral staircase inside the tower, which leads to a small viewing platform offering panoramic views of the Chuy Valley and the distant Tian Shan mountains. Around the tower, an open-air museum displays ancient stone carvings, petroglyphs, and balbals (stone warrior statues once used as grave markers by Turkic nomads). A small museum on-site also houses artifacts uncovered from excavations, giving insight into the daily life of the region’s ancient inhabitants.
Burana Tower is also surrounded by legends. One popular tale tells of a king who built the tower to protect his daughter after a prophecy foretold her death by a spider bite. Despite his efforts to isolate her in the tower, the prophecy eventually came true, adding a layer of myth and mystery to the site.

No Changes Allowed: Bookings are final and cannot be modified. This includes changes to the date, time, or number of participants.
No-Shows: Failure to attend the activity at the scheduled time and location will result in the forfeiture of the booking without any refund or credit.
Service Provider and BMB Cancellations: If an activity or transfer (whether it’s a private or shared transfer booked as part of a bundled service) is cancelled by the service provider or BookMyBooking.com, or due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., weather conditions, safety concerns or any avoidable things), we will offer an alternative date or activity of equal value.
