A new report by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) highlights Hong Kong’s roadmap to reclaim its position as a leading global tourism destination through strategic recovery initiatives and industry collaboration.
The study outlines key priorities focused on rebuilding international visitor demand, particularly long-haul travel, while strengthening business tourism and the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector. It also recommends repositioning Hong Kong as a premier hub for cultural experiences, dining, major events, and heritage tourism.
According to the report, increasing visitor length of stay remains essential for sustainable growth, as average stays have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels. Enhanced marketing efforts targeting global markets and stronger coordination between government bodies and tourism stakeholders are also identified as critical steps toward recovery.
Significant investment is already underway, with the government allocating around HK$1.6 billion for tourism development between 2026 and 2027, supporting events, cruise tourism, and destination promotion. Improvements in aviation connectivity and airport seat capacity are further expected to accelerate the destination’s rebound.
WTTC leadership emphasised that through public-private partnerships, strategic planning, and global engagement, Hong Kong is well-positioned to restore its status as a major international leisure and business travel gateway.
