Starhotels has reopened the historic Hotel Gabrielli, a 19th-century Venetian palazzo overlooking the lagoon from Riva degli Schiavoni, following an extensive restoration. Relaunching on August 25, the property becomes part of the Starhotels Collezione brand. It reopens as a five-star destination with 66 rooms, including a Presidential Suite featuring a rooftop Altana terrace with panoramic views of Venice and its lagoon.
The project preserves the hotel's artistic and architectural heritage while introducing contemporary refinements for modern travellers. Designer Andrea Auletta led the renovation, blending Venetian tradition with a palette inspired by the lagoon. Restored Murano chandeliers, Istrian stone columns, coffered ceilings and the Palazzo's Quadrifors windows frame some of the most exclusive suites.
As part of Starhotels La Grande Bellezza's The Dream Factory initiative, Murano artisans restored over 700 chandeliers and sconces, returning them to their original finishes. Exposed beam ceilings have also been conserved, while the number of key rooms was reduced from 105 to 66 to offer a more elevated guest experience.
The property introduces several new highlights, including a 600 sqm private garden, one of the largest in Venice, with centuries-old olive trees, magnolias and antique marble tubs. Dining is led by Venetian Executive Chef Mirko Pisttorello, whose menus reflect Starhotels' focus on regional culinary traditions and ingredients sourced through the Km Veneto supply chain.
The Felice al Gabrielli Restaurant, named after Franz Kafka's muse Felice Bauer, honours the writer's historic ties ot the hotel, offering an intimate courtyard setting. The K Lounge Bar serves as the hotel's social hub, inspired by the flavours of the lagoon. At the same time, Terrazza Gabrielli, located on the sixth floor, offers 360-degree views across the city and lagoon, complemented by cocktails and dishes with local provenance.
The Venetian Spa offers an intimate retreat featuring a private suite, sauna, hammam, multisensory shower, and treatment room, all designed with marble finishes and Venetian craftsmanship.
Commenting on the reopening, Elisabetta Fabri, President and CEO of Starhotels, said: "With Hotel Gabrielli, we complete a vision we have long held for Venice to provide our guests two complementary yet distinct experiences in one of the world's most beautiful cities. After Splendid Venice, behind Piazza San Marco, we will now bring our excellence to Ruva degli Schiavoni. Today, we open the doors to what we aspire to become, Venice's new signature address."
Hotel Gabrielli reopens as a landmark, blending history, culture, and modern refinement to add a new chapter to Starhotels' presence in Venice.
