As nations paraded along the River Seine beneath the Parisian sky on Friday, Malaysia's delegation of six athletes and four officials stood out at the Olympics' opening event.
Dressed in the golden-hued Malaya collection by Rizman Ruzaini, the contingent showcased the country's rich heritage and cultural pride with elegance.
Flag bearers diver Bertrand Rhodict Lises and sailor Nur Shazrin Latif led the way, exuding confidence as they traversed the six-kilometre route on the Seine between the Austerlitz and Iena bridges, culminating in a grand finale at the Trocadero, illuminated by the Eiffel Tower's laser beams.
The athletes enjoyed Paris's iconic scenery and historical landmarks throughout their journey. Among those donning the glamorous attire were Nur Dhabitah Sabri (diving), Khairulnizam Afendy (sailing), Ashley Lau (golf), and Tan Rouxin (swimming), the youngest member of the 26-strong delegation.
Joining Datuk Hamidin Amin as the Chef de Mission on the boat were deputy CDM Datuk Nicol David, chief medical officer Dr Jasmiza Khuzairi Jasme, and safeguarding officer Ang Li Peng.
Gold medallist Nur Shazrin, preparing for her third Olympics, and her fellow female athletes wore songket-patterned Baju Kurung with flowing headscarves. Rhodict, a debutant, and Khairulnizam, aiming for his fourth Olympics, sported Baju Melayu Teluk Belanga, complete with songkok and sampin.
In a flotilla of 85 boats, Malaysia's contingent, team 112, appeared alongside Malawi and the Maldives.
Due to the open-air concept and stringent security measures, the contingent was limited to 10 members, presenting before an audience of heads of state, dignitaries, and global sports leaders.
A tight competition schedule also restricted the number of Malaysian athletes present, with Nur Shazrin and Khairulnizam travelling from Marseille to participate.
Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria, and Secretary-General Datuk Nazifuddin Najib were also in attendance.
On Saturday, Malaysian athletes competing include badminton pairs Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei at Porte de La Chapelle, shooter Johnathan Wong in the men's 10m air pistol at Chateauroux, and swimmer Khiew Hoe Yean in the men's 400m freestyle at Paris La Defense Arena.
