KLM In honor of its 106th anniversary, Royal Dutch Airlines has unveiled its 106th Delft Blue tiny house. Villa Rameau, the most recent addition, is situated next to the ancient Pieterskerk in Leiden, Netherlands.
The Pilgrims, who resided in this former sexton's home for twelve years before to setting sail for America in 1620 on the Mayflower, have a strong connection to it. The unveiling of Villa Rameau pays tribute to the enduring transatlantic connection between the Netherlands and the United States.
The Delft Blue house tradition began in the 1950s when KLM started gifting miniature ceramic houses filled with Dutch gin to Business Class passengers on intercontinental flights. Travelers and collectors around the world have developed a strong need for these artifacts, which depict famous Dutch structures.
Marjan Rintel, President & CEO of KLM, emphasized the significance of this tradition, stating, "As the world’s oldest airline still operating under its original name, KLM has always stood for connection and resilience." She added that the tale of Villa Rameau exemplifies these principles by emphasizing the need of maintaining relationships, particularly in trying circumstances.
The rich history of the Pilgrims and their voyage to America is preserved by Villa Rameau, which is now a part of the Leiden American Pilgrim Museum. The unveiling of this new Delft Blue house not only celebrates KLM's anniversary but also honors the shared heritage and enduring bond between the Netherlands and the United States.
