Air Canada and ITA Airways have signed a new codeshare agreement enabling seamless travel across more than 30 destinations via Rome and Toronto. The deal strengthens ties as ITA prepares to join Star Alliance and supports improved connectivity between Canada, Italy and key destinations in Africa, the US and the Mediterranean.
Air Canada and ITA Airways have declared a milestone codeshare agreement that significantly enhances connectivity between Canada and Italy with wider links to Africa, the US, and beyond.
Under the agreement, both airlines will place their codes on 10 routes beyond their respective hubs in Toronto and Rome. For Air Canada, this includes destinations operated by ITA Airways across Italy, such as Florence, Palermo, and Bari, as well as Cairo, Tunis, Algiers, Tirana, and Tel Aviv. Meanwhile, ITA Airways will gain access to Canadian cities, including Vancouver, Montreal and St John's and US destinations such as Boston and Dallas via Toronto.
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President and CCO at Air Canada, said, "This deepening of ties will allow customers travelling to Rome Fiumicino to book and connect to ten famous destinations conveniently. Likewise, ITA customers arriving in Toronto will benefit from access to 10 key North American cities."
ITA Airways CEO Joerg Eberhatt added, "This agreement supports our strategy to grow beyond Italy and enhance service for leisure and business travellers. It also strengthens our commitment ot passengers of Italian origin residing in Canada and the US"
In addition to flights, Air Canaa continues to offer rail connectivity within Italy through Trenitalia. Together with ITA Airways' existing seasonal and intercontinental operations and broader Lufthansa group codeshare portfolio, the new partnership aims to support smoother passenger journeys and strengthen transatlantic traffic. Codeshare ticket sales are now open for travel from 21 July.
