PARIS — Starting January 14, 2026, the Louvre Museum in Paris will increase ticket prices for visitors from outside the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA) as part of efforts to fund extensive renovations and security upgrades at the world‑famous institution.
Under the new pricing plan approved by the museum’s board of directors, the standard entry fee for non‑EU and non‑EEA travellers will rise from €22 to €32 (roughly 45 per cent more than the previous rate). EU and EEA residents will continue to pay the current price.
Reason for the Price Increase
Museum officials said the extra funds will be used for building repairs. They will also improve security. Visitor facilities at the Louvre will be upgraded. The decision follows recent problems. A major gem theft in October 2025 exposed security weaknesses.
The Louvre is preparing a long‑term transformation project, often referred to as the “Louvre New Renaissance,” which is estimated to cost up to €800 million. The plan focuses on fixing the building, improving safety, reducing crowding, and creating special exhibition spaces. A new gallery for the Mona Lisa is planned by 2031.
New Ticket Prices Details
- Non‑EU/EEA visitors:€32 for a full‑price ticket.
- Group visitors:Guided tour ticket rates will also increase, with group admissions typically set lower than individual entry.
- EU/EEA residents:No change — they will pay the existing ticket price.
The museum expects this change to generate an additional €15–20 million annually, helping to support the planned safety enhancements and renovation work while easing financial pressures.
Impact on Visitors
Tourists from countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, China, India and others outside the EEA will be affected by the higher entrance fee. With nearly 9 million visitors yearly, the Louvre remains the world’s most visited museum, with a significant share of international tourists.
The higher ticket prices will cost international travellers more. Museum officials say the extra money will go toward better safety. It will also improve facilities. Overall, it will make the visitor experience better during the renovations.
