Thailand leads the list with Bangkok, Phuket and Pattaya attracting over 60% more searches year on year, offering a mix of street life, beaches and culture. Other top international search destinations include Dubai, Singapore, London, Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Abu Dhabi, and Hong Kong.
On the 79th Independence Day Long Weekend turns out to be a catalyst for Indian travellers, seeking a small, impressive migration. Booking.com Data reveals a strong demand for both destinations and easily accessible international destinations, including miniosations in the Asia Pacific region.
With over half 58% of Indian travellers favouring short domestic trips in 2025, destinations within driving distance of major metros are experiencing a surge in interest. Alibaug, Karjat and Igatpuri near Mumbai, along with Rishikesh and Mussoorie near Delhi, have recorded accommodation search growth of between 40% and 80% compared to the same period last year.
Famous favourites such as Lonavala, Jaipur, Mahabaleshwar and Chikmagalur are also seeing strong demand for quick, restorative breaks.
Coastal escapes remain high on the agenda with quieter seaside twins like Varkala and Gokarna, along with perennial favourite Goa, showing a 20% to 40% rise in interest. For the period 14 to 17 August 2025, the most searched domestic destinations on Booking.com were Udaipur, Lonavala, Jaipur, Puducherry, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ooty, Munnar, Kodaikanal and New Delhi. Dubai, Singapore, Bangkok, London, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Abu Dhabi, Pattaya, and Hong Kong topped the international list.
Long weekends have also strengthened the appeal of alternative homes. Homestays, guesthouses, apartments, and villas were among the most discovered property types. This aligns with the platform's findings, which indicate that 74% of Indian passengers prefer staying outside the house for comfort, flexibility, and enriching experiences, particularly when travelling with family.
