Telangana Tourism convened a high-level stakeholder roundtable to deliberate on the formation of the Telangana State Medical Tourism Society and propose a framework for developing Hyderabad into an integrated Medical Value Tourism hub. The initiative aligns with national plans to establish five regions, MVT hubs under the Union Budget 2026 vision.
Telangana Tourism organised a policy round table to outline a structured roadmap for positioning Hyderabad as South Asia’s most integrated Medical Value Tourism destination. The session brought together senior government officials, healthcare leaders, and tourism stakeholders to discuss the institutional framework for the proposed Telangana State Medical Tourism Society and to recommend policy inputs to the Union Ministries for establishing an integrated MVT hub in the state.
The first session explored the envisioned role of TGMTS as the central coordinating body for medical tourism in Telangana, focusing on stakeholder alignment, ethical governance, and unified branding. Industry representatives highlighted Hyderabad’s clinical outcomes, healthcare infrastructure, affordability and the synergy of tos healthcare hospitality aviation ecosystem as key competitive advantages.
Participants recommended that the proposed society drive policy advocacy, global branding, international outreach, and self-regulation mechanisms. Additional proposals included transport facility redressal systems, facility licensing, and targeted familiarisation programmes for international delegates to enhance the patient experience and credibility.
The second session examined a framework for an integrated MVT hub in Hyderabad, envisioned as a greenfield medical city developed under a PPP model. The proposed hub would integrate hospitals, wellness centres, Ayurveda centres, a medical college, research facilities, and tourism infrastructure. A detailed recommendation paper will be prepared to support the policy's execution.
India’s medical value travel industry, estimated at USD 20.4 billion by 2026 and projected to reach USD 25-28 billion by 2030, continues to grow under the Hela in India initiative. Hyderabad, already among the country’s top three MVT destinations, aims to strengthen its position through the proposed TGMTS framework. The city hosts over 50 NABH- and JCI-accredited hospitals, nearly 12,000 beds, and robust connectivity via Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, which handles over 31 million passengers annually. V Kranthi, Managing Director of Telangana Tourism Development Corporation, said, “Hyderabad stands institutionally and operationally ready to scale as a globally trusted medical value tourism destination. With our integrated healthcare hospitality aviation ecosystem and clinical excellence, we are poised to lead as one of India’s five Regional Medical Value Tourism Hubs under the Union Budget 2026 vision.”
Shaaz Mehmood, founder of Medijourn, added, “Hyderabad’s advanced infrastructure cost competitiveness and integrated ecosystem make it ideally positioned as one of India’s five Regional Medical Value Tourism Hubs. The proposed Telangana Medical Tourism Society will drive policy advocacy and joint international outreach.”
