Nepal Welcomes 1.15 Million Foreign Tourists In 2025

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, more than 1.15 million foreign tourists visited Nepal in 2025. This showed a small but positive rise in the country’s tourism sector.

Official statistics show that Nepal saw 1,158,459 foreign visitors in 2025, up from 1,147,548 in 2024. This is a modest annual increase of about 1%. Nonetheless, this figure was still lower than before COVID-19, when the nation received over 1.2 million foreign tourists in 2019.

The tourism industry faced several challenges during the year, most notably the Gen-Z movement in early September, which disrupted travel and damaged several hotel properties, including major international hotels. Despite these challenges, Nepal’s tourism sector avoided a sharp decline, with visitor numbers picking up towards the end of 2025.

India remained the largest source market with 292,438 tourists, making up over 25% of total arrivals, followed by the United States with 112,316 visitors and China with 95,480 tourists.

Other essential source markets included the United Kingdom and Bangladesh, which contributed significant numbers of travellers.

Although overall foreign arrivals grew only slightly, visitor numbers in October and November improved compared with earlier months, helping support tourism recovery toward the end of the year.

In addition to tourism growth, the NTB reported that Nepal secured foreign direct investment commitments worth NPR 30.26 billion across multiple projects during the first five months of the current 2025–26 fiscal year, suggesting investor interest in bolstering tourism and related sectors.

The results show that while Nepal's tourism sector is gradually rebounding from the pandemic and other obstacles, it has yet to reach the pre-pandemic peak, and continued efforts will be needed to attract more international visitors in 2026 and beyond.
