Recent travel-data from visa-processing platform Atlys shows that this winter, a surge of new outbound trips from India are being driven by younger travellers — especially millennials and Gen Z — with European destinations emerging as the top favourite.
More than half of all visa applications submitted for travel between November 2025 and February 2026 come from millennials. Strikingly, roughly 50% of those millennial travellers are choosing countries in the Schengen Area as their destination.
Gen Z travellers are also contributing significantly — accounting for about 25% of applications — and women now represent around 34% of total visa-applicants, showing rising demand for international travel across gender and age groups.
According to travel-industry experts, this shift reflects changing traveller behavior: younger people now prefer immersive, experience-driven trips — often involving culture, adventure or unique seasonal settings — over traditional, short getaways. Europe’s winter charm, diverse landscapes and travel-friendly visa frameworks are making Schengen countries especially attractive this season.
With visa demand rising sharply, travellers and agencies are being advised to book early and prepare documents carefully, as the increased volume could lead to longer wait times at embassies and visa-processing centres.
