Indian backpacker-hostel chain Zostel has launched its 100th property, marking the brand’s first-ever international location situated in Phuket, Thailand. This launch signals Zostel’s transition from a domestic hostel network to a global hospitality player.
The new property, Zostel Phuket, blends the chain’s hallmark communal, budget-friendly hostel vibe with Phuket’s tropical, laid-back atmosphere. Guests can enjoy shared lounges, a courtyard café, creative social zones, and easy access to beaches and local nightlife — designed especially for backpackers, solo travellers, and social explorers.
The Phuket launch, according to CEO Aviral Gupta, is the company's "first footprint in a world without borders," highlighting their goal of creating a global travel network that links communities. Over the next year, Zostel aims to expand further in Southeast Asia with new properties expected in destinations such as Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Koh Phangan.
The launch reflects a larger shift in hospitality like hostels are no longer seen as mere budget stays, but as vibrant social spaces that offer experience, community, and global connectivity. For travellers, especially younger and more experience-oriented ones — Zostel’s global expansion offers a fresh, affordable option to explore the world without losing the familiar sense of community.
