Sydney Business Events Records Best Year In 55-Year History

Sydney’s business events sector has closed 2025 on a high note, setting a new record for future business events secured, according to Business Events Sydney (BESydney).

BESydney confirmed it has secured 81 global conferences and meetings for future years — the most in the organisation’s 55-year History. These events are expected to attract around 59,000 delegates and bring in more than AUD 252 million in direct spending to the New South Wales visitor economy.

The planned events will account for roughly 253,000 delegate days, strengthening Sydney’s position as a top destination for large-scale business gatherings and innovation exchanges.

BESydney CEO Amanda Lampe said the achievement was made possible by the organisation’s expert team and strong partnerships with public and private sectors. She described the outlook for 2026 as the best in the organisation’s History.

Lampe noted that business events now play an essential role in the New South Wales Government’s Visitor Economy Strategy 2035, which recognises them as a key driver of growth. Beyond tourism, these events support trade, innovation, investment, and talent attraction across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, higher education, and scientific research.

Looking ahead, Sydney is preparing for continued growth in business events, with Western Sydney International Airport opening as a 24-hour global gateway and Sydney Airport expanding capacity to support increased international connectivity.

Key major events secured for future years include:

  • International Labour and Employment Relations Association World Congress 2027 – 1,000 delegates (AUD 4 million direct expenditure)
  • World Hydropower Congress 2027 – 700 delegates (AUD 2.6 million)
  • Asia-Pacific Circular Hotspot 2026 – 400 delegates (AUD 865,000)
  • IEEE World Congress on Services 2026 – 500 delegates (AUD 2.8 million)
  • Allianz Life Indonesia Annual Agency Incentive 2026 – 1,000 delegates (AUD 6 million)

With these results, Sydney continues to build its global reputation as one of the world’s leading business event hubs.
