Western Australia Tourism Spending Hits Record $19.2 Billion

Western Australia’s tourism industry achieved a historic milestone in 2025, recording a total visitor spending of USD 19.2 billion, marking the highest tourism revenue ever generated by the state. The strong performance highlights the continued recovery and rapid growth of the region’s visitor economy.

According to tourism data, more than 40 million visitors traveled across Western Australia during the year, including around 11 million overnight visitors and 29.1 million day-trip travelers. This surge in tourism significantly boosted local businesses, regional destinations, and hospitality sectors across the state.

International tourism played a major role in this success. Western Australia welcomed approximately 1.1 million international visitors, the highest number ever recorded, contributing $3.4 billion in spending. Key markets such as the United Kingdom, China, France, and Japan showed strong growth, supported by expanded flight connectivity and targeted tourism campaigns.

Domestic travel also strengthened the industry. Interstate visitation reached 1.2 million travelers, while intrastate tourism remained strong, with millions of residents exploring destinations within Western Australia. Regional areas alone generated about $6 billion in visitor spending, demonstrating tourism’s importance beyond major cities.

Major international events, new aviation routes, cruise arrivals, and promotional initiatives helped drive this record performance. Tourism continues to be a vital economic pillar for Western Australia, supporting thousands of jobs and positioning the state for further growth as it aims to expand its visitor economy in the coming years.
