The Indian northeastern state of Assam is set to get a dedicated visa-facilitation centre in Guwahati, announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The centre will be run by VFS Global and will cater to visa applications for more than 60 countries.
Until now, travellers from Assam and other northeastern states had to travel to distant cities such as Delhi or Mumbai for visa-related formalities — including biometric submission and verification. The new centre in Guwahati is expected to end that burden, making visa applications far easier for residents of the region.
The exact list of countries covered by the centre, along with the opening date and detailed procedures, is yet to be made public. The state government and VFS Global have said they will share full details soon.
If it becomes operational as planned, the Guwahati visa-centre could significantly improve access to international travel for people across Assam and the Northeast — reducing travel costs, saving time, and removing bureaucratic hurdles.
