Uber has expanded its travel services in India by introducing train ticket booking on its app through a partnership with travel-tech company ixigo. The new feature lets users book train tickets, check PNR status, and arrange Uber rides to and from railway stations, bringing multiple stages of rail travel together on one platform.
Train booking integrated with Uber
New Delhi: Under the partnership, ixigo’s train-ticketing technology and post-booking services have been integrated into Uber’s mobility platform. Travellers can search and book train journeys while also accessing PNR-related information through the Uber app.
The integration is designed to address the first- and last-mile challenges associated with train travel. Users can book an Uber ride to the railway station before departure and arrange another ride after reaching their destination, reducing the need to switch between different platforms.
Uber expands multimodal travel offering
Adding railway bookings marks another step in Uber’s efforts to build a broader intercity mobility ecosystem in India. The company already offers services including Moto, Auto, Cars, Metro, Intercity Cars and Intercity Buses on its platform.
Uber also operates dedicated pickup and drop-off zones at several railway stations, including Ahmedabad, Secunderabad and Howrah. The new ticketing feature builds on this existing station connectivity by letting passengers plan more of their journey in the same app.
Focus on a seamless rail journey
Arnab Kumar, Director, Business Development, Uber India and South Asia, said the partnership is intended to bring train ticketing and station connectivity together, allowing riders to manage their rail journeys through a single application.
For ixigo, the partnership extends its train-booking and post-booking capabilities beyond its own platform. Group CEO Aloke Bajpai and Group Co-CEO Rajnish Kumar said the collaboration would help travellers plan their journeys from their doorstep through to their final destination.
Growing opportunity in India's rail travel market
The move comes as rail remains a major component of India's domestic mobility network. Indian Railways carried 741 crore passengers during FY2025-26, highlighting the scale of the country's train travel market.
By combining rail ticketing with its existing ground-transport services, Uber is positioning itself as a more comprehensive mobility platform rather than solely a ride-hailing service. The partnership with ixigo could make intercity journeys more convenient by bringing ticket booking, PNR information and station transfers into one digital experience.
