According to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, India's first bullet train service would start on August 15, 2027. The first operational segment of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Corridor would run between Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat.
The project is being introduced in phases. After the first stretch opens, services will be extended progressively to cover other sections such as Vapi to Surat, then Vapi to Ahmedabad, and finally the full corridor connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
Once fully operational by 2029, the bullet train is expected to cut travel time significantly, offering a high-speed link of about 508 km between the two major cities. This will mark India’s entry into high-speed rail travel and is anticipated to boost regional connectivity and economic activity along the route.
When the entire route is finished, passengers will be able to travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in around two hours thanks to the bullet train corridor, which is being constructed using cutting-edge technology and is intended to run at speeds of up to 300 km/h.When the entire route is finished, passengers will be able to travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in around two hours thanks to the bullet train corridor, which is being constructed using cutting-edge technology and is intended to run at speeds of up to 300 km/h.
This project represents a major advancement in India’s rail infrastructure, with full operations planned by 2029.
