The Himachal Pradesh government has launched an ambitious Monsoon Tourism Initiative aimed at reviving travel during the state’s rainy season — a time when visitor numbers typically dip. As part of this initiative, a new Monsoon Tourism Circuit will be developed to showcase the scenic beauty, water bodies, and adventure potential of various districts.
The plan includes promoting lakes, reservoirs, and rivers across regions such as Bilaspur, Kol Dam, Kangra, and Sundernagar, transforming them into year-round tourist destinations. These areas will host a range of water-based and eco-friendly activities, such as kayaking, canoeing, still-water rafting, and leisure boating, offering visitors a unique way to experience Himachal’s natural charm.
A significant highlight of the initiative will be the “Bilaspur Aqua Fest 2025”, scheduled from November 21 to 23 at Gobind Sagar Lake.
In order to promote regional crafts, food, and customs, the event will include adventure sports, cultural activities, and a livelihood display. Local self-help organizations, business owners, and craftspeople are to be included in the festival. This is to ensure grassroots economic advantages and community involvement.
Officials think that this monsoon-focused tourism plan would not only boost visitor footfall but also create new employment opportunities, benefiting the local economy and providing travellers with a fresh incentive to explore Himachal Pradesh beyond the conventional summer and winter seasons.
