Published on : 21-06-2024

Indian Prime Minister To Celebrate International Yoga Day 2024 From Srinagar

The theme of International Yoga Day 2024 is "Yoga for Self and Society," which emphasises Yoga's crucial role in promoting individual well-being and social harmony.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation on International Yoga Day, said that the world is looking forward to Yoga as an agent of global good. The PM was scheduled to address the nations on the banks of the Dal Lake to celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day, but the event was moved indoors due to incessant rain. The Prime Minister is performing Yoga in a 30-minute session; this year's theme, "Yoga for Self and Society", emphasises Yoga's important role in promoting individual well-being and social harmony.

Over these years, PM Modi has led Yoga Day celebrations at numerous landmarks, including Delhi's Kartavya Path, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, and Jabalpur. The previous year, he led events at the UN Headquarters in New York, which was expected to bring more attention to the Srinagar programme.

Yogi Adityanath remarks on International Yoga Day

"World Performing Yoga Under PM Modi's Leadership"

He said, "All of you are welcome to this program of the 10th International Yoga Day at Raj Bhawan. Yoga Day is being celebrated across the country today. I congratulate the people of the entire state on the 10th International Yoga Day program. Today, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the whole world is celebrating International Yoga Day by joining together. Yoga shows humanity."

PM Modi said, "The World is looking at yoga as a powerful agent of global good.”

"The world is looking at Yoga as a powerful agent of global good. Yoga helps us live in the present moment. It connects us with ourselves and our deepest feelings. Yoga helps us raise our welfare and is connected to the welfare of those around us. Yoga is a science. In today's world, the human mind finds it difficult to focus on one thing. Yoga is the solution for this.

He added, "The World's biggest institutions and universities are publishing research on Yoga. Yoga is not limited now. Word is watching a new Yoga economy come up. Tourists around the world are coming to India to learn authentic Yoga, and this is increasing yoga tourism."

PM Modi also said, "Last year, I led a yoga day celebration at the UN in the US. The journey of Yoga around the world is ongoing. I am happy that over 100 institutions have been certified by the AYUSH Ministry Yoga Board today. The number of people performing Yoga is increasing."

Yoga is also performed at Times Square in New York

The Consulate General of India in New York said, "A large number of people joined 'Solstice at Times Square’ to celebrate Yoga ahead of the International Day of Yoga. "The day-long celebration of Yoga, also known as 'Solstice at Times Square', features seven yoga sessions in which about 10,000 people from across nationalities participated, showcasing the widespread enthusiasm for Yoga in New York City and the US."
