Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kochi follow the national capital, while Tokyo tops Asia’s list for the first time.
New Delhi has emerged as India’s leading destination for repeat visits in Agoda’s 2026 Repeat Visitor Ranking, based on accommodation bookings recorded during the first half of the year. Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kochi secured the next four positions, highlighting the continued popularity of the country’s major cities among returning travellers.
Released by digital travel platform Agoda, the ranking identifies destinations that continue to draw visitors back for their cultural attractions, culinary experiences, heritage and business or leisure opportunities.
New Delhi’s appeal spans historic landmarks such as the Red Fort and Humayun’s Tomb, alongside vibrant markets and a diverse food scene. Chennai ranked second, attracting visitors with its Dravidian heritage, Marina Beach and distinctive South Indian cuisine.
Mumbai secured the third position, supported by its Art Deco architecture, Bollywood connections and varied culinary offerings. Bengaluru ranked fourth, combining its technology-led identity with restaurants, live music, green spaces and a lively social scene. Kochi completed India’s top five, with Fort Kochi’s colonial-era heritage, contemporary art, Kerala cuisine and access to the state’s backwaters contributing to its appeal.
Tokyo leads Asia’s repeat-visit rankings
At the regional level, Tokyo claimed the top spot in Agoda’s 2026 ranking for the first time, overtaking Bangkok. Bali ranked third, followed by Seoul and Osaka.
The remaining positions in Asia’s top 10 were occupied by Da Nang, Kuala Lumpur, Fukuoka, Taipei and Johor Bahru.
Tokyo’s rise reflects the appeal of its seasonal attractions, neighbourhood experiences and culinary offerings. Bangkok retained its popularity through its dining scene, wellness experiences and cultural attractions, while Bali continued to draw returning visitors with its beaches, landscapes and spiritual retreats.
The rankings also point to growing interest in destinations beyond Asia’s established tourism centres. Fukuoka entered the regional top 10 for the first time, ranking eighth, while Vietnam’s Da Nang advanced two places to sixth. Da Nang’s beaches, proximity to the UNESCO-listed heritage town of Hoi An and value proposition contribute to its appeal among travellers.
Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, said repeat travel is becoming an important part of how Indian travellers explore destinations. Trips increasingly combine food, culture, weddings, festivals and business engagements with leisure experiences.
Agoda’s platform offers more than six million holiday properties, over 130,000 flight routes and more than 300,000 activities, allowing travellers to combine different elements of their trips in a single booking.
