A train is seen passing through the towering railway bridge over the Chenab River, surrounded by the beautiful mountains of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian Railways successfully completed their trial of the world's highest railway bridge in Jammu and Kashmir. The newly constructed Chenab railway bridge is between Sangaldan in Ramban district and Reasi. According to officials, rail services on the line will start soon.
The train was observed passing through the towering railway bridge over the Chenab River, which is backdropped by the beautiful mountains of Jammu and Kashmir. Ashwini Vaishnaw, the railway minister, also took the time to share the new milestone on social media. "Successful trial of MEMU train between Sangaldan Reasi section of USBRL project. Jammu and Kashmir," he said in a post.
The bridge is a structural marvel, 359 meters above the Chenab River and around 35 meters taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was built under the Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link Project, which will be completed by the end of the year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the grand USBRL project, which includes the 48.1 km long Banihal Sangaldan section, on February 20, 2024.
The project's phase 1, which covers the 118 km Qazigund Baramulla stretch, was inaugurated in October 2009. The following phases included opening the 18 km Banihal Qazigund section in June 2013 and the 25km Udhampur Katra section in July 2014. The Chenab bridge, which is 1315 meters long, is part of a broader project to make the Kashmir valley accessible by the Indian Railway network.
