The theme of tourism development in Tripura gained fresh momentum today as Jyotiraditya Scindia — Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region — reviewed the state’s tourism roadmap, urging adoption of global best practices to unlock Tripura’s cultural, spiritual and eco-tourism potential.
Scindia chaired a high-level meeting on the proposed Matabari Tourism Circuit, a comprehensive plan to elevate Tripura’s tourism profile. The meeting was attended by the state leadership including Manik Saha, the Chief Minister of Tripura.
The proposed measures include strengthening international connectivity through Agartala Airport, revamping key tourist attractions such as Neer Mahal, Tepania, Jampui Pura and Udaipur to world-class standards, and developing the Dumbur Islands via public-private partnership (PPP) to encourage private investment and sustainable growth.
Scindia emphasised that the government aims to give Tripura a global-ready tourism ecosystem — one that conserves heritage and environment while offering high-quality visitor experiences. He asked officials to draw inspiration from successful Indian destinations like Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Kevadia (Gujarat) when designing infrastructure, visitor services and conservation-oriented tourism models.
The Ministry also proposed a multi-vertical capacity-building programme involving local guides and tourism-related services to boost employment, improve service quality, and integrate community participation.
Officials present at the meeting said the Matabari Tourism Circuit aims to make Tripura a vibrant hub combining cultural heritage, spiritual tourism, eco-adventures and regional hospitality — positioning it strongly on both domestic and global tourism maps.
