Wonderla Holidays is set to launch its newest amusement park — Wonderla Chennai, marking a major milestone in India’s entertainment scene. The park opens to the public on December 2, 2025, following an inauguration on December 1 by the state government.
Wonderla Chennai occupies 64.3 acres along Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), with more than half already developed for public use. The project, built at an investment of ₹611 crore, is described by its operators as their most ambitious yet.
Wonderla Chennai features 43 state-of-the-art attractions, spread across four categories: thrilling rides, family rides, children’s rides, and water rides. The park is designed to accommodate up to 6,500 visitors per day.
Among its flagship attractions are:
- Tanjora— India’s first and largest inverted roller-coaster by the global manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M), offering high-speed loops, floorless seating, zero-gravity rolls and the sensation of flying.
- Sky Rail— a 540-metre elevated monorail ride featuring Viking-style gondolas, giving riders panoramic aerial views of the park.
- Spin Mill— advertised as India’s tallest spinning ride at 50 metres, delivering intense rotations and thrills for adventure-seeking visitors.
The design of Wonderla Chennai fuses modern amusement-park layout with cultural and environmental sensitivity. Entry zones and walkways recall ancient Tamil-style stone architecture, while the slopes, paths and shaded areas use native landscaping and more than 1,000 indigenous trees to create green, climate-responsive spaces.
A wide range of amenities are also available to visitors, including eight themed restaurants that serve both international and regional Tamil cuisine (such as Dindigul biryani, Chettinad food, and Chennai-style seafood), retail stores that display local crafts, baby care areas, lockers, first aid stations, accessible pathways, and event space facilities, such as a large outdoor venue and a 1,500-seat hall.
Wonderla Chennai is expected to boost tourism and leisure options in South India. The park will also help the local economy by creating over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs and becoming a popular weekend spot for people in Chennai and nearby regions.
As December 2 draws near, excitement among thrill-ride enthusiasts, tourists, and families grows. For many of them, Wonderla Chennai is a brand-new, modern promenade that blends comfortable, culturally inspired furnishings with exciting entertainment.
