Singapore Games Studio- SNK Launches Development Studio In Singapore

The Fatal Fury Developer says we want to become a 'Top 10 global publisher within the next decade.

The renowned developer of Fatal Fury and Metal Slug, SNK, has inaugurated a new development studio in Singapore as part of its strategy to enhance its global presence. Although the Japanese company discreetly established the studio in 2022, it has officially announced its opening.

SNK stated that this expansion emphasises its dedication to "producing high-quality games through improved collaboration between our teams in Japan and Singapore."

SNK's Aspiration to Become a Top 10 Global Publisher

SNK Games Singapore, led by Hong Sing Tang, plays a crucial role in the company's ambitious aims to rank among the "top 10 global publishers" within the next ten years.

"The commencement of SNK Games Singapore signifies the studio's potential to significantly impact the global gaming industry by utilizing Singapore's dynamic economic climate and technological expertise," according to a press release.

"Creating this studio is critical in SNK's mission to provide outstanding gaming experiences worldwide and promote innovation through international partnerships."

Dr Serkan Toto, CEO of the Japan-based game industry consultancy Kantan Games, highlighted SNK's uniqueness in establishing a dedicated development studio in Singapore.

"This is noteworthy because, while numerous game companies have operations in Singapore, actual game development in the region is relatively uncommon," he commented on X.

Controversial Expansion Following Saudi Acquisition

This expansion occurred two years after SNK was acquired by the Saudi non-profit organisation Misk, founded by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman in 2011. The acquisition was controversial due to Saudi Arabia's poor human rights record and Bin Salman's alleged involvement in Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi's murder.
