Flights Grounded Due To Extreme Weather Conditions- Europe
Europe remains crippled with severe ice and snowstorms. Passengers are facing hundreds of flight cancellations, remaining stranded at airports. Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport saw swarming and exhausted passengers severely affected due to extreme weather conditions.

Road and rail disruptions were impacted in France and the Netherlands. Apart from these nations, Switzerland and Finland are reporting serious weather challenges, posing a problematic restoration and widespread chaos.

Choked highways, hundreds of grounded flights, halted railways and thousands of stranded passengers- this is the impact of extreme weather conditions prevailing in many parts of Europe.

A skier met with a mishap in Paris while skiing along the snowy bank of Siene river around the Eiffel Tower, which disrupted the flow of traffic. Berlin residents were relieved as the disrupted power was restored for thousands of households that were without power for four continuous days.

One of Europe’s busiest aviation hubs, Schiphol Airport set up numerous bed fields and served food to stranded passengers as staff worked tirelessly to clear highways, runways and deice aeroplanes. Around 800 flights were cancelled at the airport, creating massive havoc in the aviation hub.
Sonja Wurmlingel, a passenger trying to reach her home in Argentina, had to face repeated disappointments. She was to fly via Düsseldorf, Germany, but the flight was cancelled. She was left with the railway option, sadly, that option also failed as no trains were scheduled.

KLM, the national airline, stated that the queues were reducing because of timely updates to the passengers about their flights.

Fresh snowfall hit hard on the Dutch rail and road network, stranding hundreds of travellers, even later in the day. Rail Operator NS urged passengers to delay their travel if possible, as it warned of lesser trains operating because of extreme weather conditions in the Netherlands. International as well as domestic trains were affected due to fresh snowfall.

Météo France. France’s national weather service said major parts of northern and western France, including Paris, were on high alert for black and snow ice. The authorities advised people to work from home and avoid the roadways as many cars were stuck in traffic jams.

Philippe Tabarot, Transport Minister of Paris, stated that the above 40 flights were cancelled at Paris Orly Airport and above 100 flights were cancelled at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. Passengers were warned by SNCF, the French railway company, warned passengers about delays and disruptions due to extreme weather conditions, stating that the snow on tracks is forcing them to limit train speed and train cancellations. Between London, Paris and Brussels, Eurostar was also delayed.

Sweden faced heavy snow, resulting in the city’s trams being out of service. Ignition of Finnish buses posed a great difficulty as they had been stranded in the snow for days.
