Thailand has approved a 30-day visa exemption for Indian passport holders, making it easier for Indian tourists to visit the country without applying for a visa in advance. The decision replaces the earlier 60-day visa-free stay and is expected to come into effect after it is officially published in the Royal Gazette.
With the revised policy, Indian travellers will continue to enjoy visa-free entry, but the maximum duration of stay has been reduced to 30 days. The move shifts India from the Visa on Arrival category to the 30-day visa exemption list, simplifying immigration procedures while supporting tourism and bilateral relations between India and Thailand.
The Thai Cabinet approved the updated visa framework following a review of the country's immigration policies. Officials believe the revised system strikes a balance between promoting tourism and strengthening immigration oversight. The decision also comes after concerns that uncertainty over visa regulations had impacted tourist arrivals from India, one of Thailand's key source markets.
The updated visa policy is expected to benefit leisure travellers, families, business visitors, and MICE delegates by making short-term travel more convenient. Industry stakeholders also anticipate that the measure will help sustain tourism growth while strengthening economic and cultural ties between India and Thailand.
Travellers should note that although a visa is not required for stays of up to 30 days, they must still comply with Thailand's entry requirements, including completing the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival, once the new rules take effect.
