The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has officially confirmed that the Songkran Festival 2026 will be celebrated nationwide, inviting travellers from around the world to join in the country’s traditional Thai New Year festivities. Recognised as an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, Songkran blends centuries‑old customs with lively public celebrations, making it one of Thailand’s most iconic cultural events and a major draw for international visitors.
The festival, known for its symbolic water‑pouring rituals and merit‑making ceremonies at temples, will take place across urban and rural regions, showcasing both spiritual traditions and modern tourism experiences. From April 9 to 15, key events will take place in Bangkok, including the Maha Songkran World Event at Benjakitti Park and spirited water festivities at popular venues such as Silom and Siam Square.
Across the country, regional celebrations will highlight Thailand’s cultural diversity. In historic cities such as Chiang Mai, Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, older customs will take centre stage with temple offerings and heritage‑centred parades. At the same time, coastal destinations like Phuket and Surat Thani will offer beachside water fun for tourists and locals alike.
TAT has emphasised that preparations are underway to ensure a smooth and enjoyable festival experience, with visitor services, infrastructure and safety measures in place. Officials encourage travellers to plan to make the most of Songkran’s blend of cultural significance and vibrant celebration.
