According to sources, the Kangra Valley Administration has imposed a ban on trekking above 3000 metres. Now, trekkers will need permission from the police authorities of Triund, Adi Himani Chamunda and Kareri routes.
Information on trekking activities in Himachal Pradesh is now being widely circulated by the District Disaster Management Authority, with the safety of tourists in mind. The administration clearly stated that if the Meteorological Department, Shimla, raises a warning or an alert, all permissions granted will stand cancelled. Deputy Commissioner Kangra, Hemraj Bairwa states, such instructions are issued time to time keeping in mind the safety of the visitors and to escalate the work of the rescue operation teams.
Disaster Management Agencies, such as the State and National Disaster Management, police search and rescue teams, and the Mountaineering Centre Mcleoddganj, shall be exempted from the Kangra Administration's instructions. The Superintendent of Police, Kangra, shall be the approving authority for trekkers. He has instructed the District Tourism Officer to inform all stakeholders of the tourism business in Kangra district to update all tourists staying with them about the limitations on trekking activities in the region.
Previously, Delhi trekkers who lost their way in the Dhauladhar mountain range near Dharamshala were safely rescued by police authorities.
