Galaxy Health Insurance has entered the international travel insurance market with the launch of Galaxy Fly Global Travel Insurance, expanding its portfolio beyond health insurance to cater to the growing number of Indians travelling overseas for leisure, business, education and employment.
The new product combines medical protection with coverage for a range of travel-related risks. Galaxy Health Insurance said the launch comes amid increasing outbound travel from India and growing awareness of the financial risks associated with overseas medical treatment, flight disruptions, extreme weather and other unexpected events.
Galaxy Fly provides coverage for emergency hospitalisation, outpatient treatment, dental emergencies, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation of mortal remains and hospitalisation daily allowance. It also covers life-threatening emergencies arising from pre-existing medical conditions, subject to policy terms.
The policy extends beyond medical emergencies to cover travel disruptions such as trip cancellation and interruption, flight delays, missed connections, loss or delay of checked-in baggage, loss of passport and personal liability. Additional benefits include compassionate visits, return of minor children and coverage related to bounced hotel or airline bookings, depending on the plan selected.
G Srinivasan, Managing Director and CEO of Galaxy Health Insurance, said that changing international travel risks and rising healthcare costs have made travel insurance increasingly important. He added that the company's healthcare expertise would help extend protection to customers beyond India's borders.
Galaxy Fly offers destination-specific plans covering the USA and Canada, Europe, Asia and other worldwide destinations. According to the company's product brochure, coverage can be selected for periods ranging from one to 180 days, with sum insured options ranging from US$25,000 to US$500,000, depending on the plan.
To provide overseas assistance, Galaxy Health Insurance has partnered with Europe Assistance India, giving policyholders access to services including cashless hospitalisation, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation and 24x7 travel assistance across multiple countries.
The product will initially be distributed through Galaxy Health Insurance's agent network and digital channels. The insurer also plans to work with travel platforms, corporate travel providers and other industry partners to broaden access to travel insurance among India's expanding outbound traveller base.
With Galaxy Fly, Galaxy Health Insurance aims to establish travel insurance as an important growth segment within its retail business while offering Indian travellers broader protection against medical and travel-related uncertainties abroad.
