India’s travel and hospitality industry is expected to witness steady workforce expansion, with hiring projected to grow by 5.1% during the first half of FY 2026-27. According to the latest employment outlook report by TeamLease Services, the sector is benefiting from the rising popularity of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism and religious travel across the country.
The report highlights that nearly 63% of hospitality employers plan to increase their workforce, reflecting confidence in the sector’s long-term growth. This hiring momentum is being fueled by strong domestic leisure travel, growing business tourism, increasing footfall at pilgrimage destinations, and the emergence of Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities as major tourism hubs.
Customer-facing and operational roles are expected to see the highest demand. Sales and marketing positions lead hiring intentions, followed by business continuity and finance-related roles. Companies are also actively seeking talent for hotel operations, food and beverage services, event management, travel coordination, and wellness tourism.
Cities such as Indore, Kochi, and Lucknow are emerging as key employment hotspots, supported by improved infrastructure, better connectivity, and expanding tourism ecosystems. Additionally, the sector is expected to offer competitive salary growth as organisations focus on attracting and retaining skilled professionals.
Industry experts note that the hospitality sector is moving towards a more structured and demand-driven hiring approach. Government initiatives, tourism infrastructure development, and the continued rise of MICE and religious tourism are creating sustainable employment opportunities while strengthening India’s position as a leading travel destination.
With tourism expected to play an increasingly important role in the country’s economic growth, the hospitality industry is poised to generate significant job opportunities and contribute to long-term workforce development.
