San Francisco International Airport (SFO) has appointed Eva Cheong as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), making her the first woman to take on the position in the airport’s history.
In her new role, Cheong will oversee a broad range of airport operations, including airside and landside activities, AirTrain services, safety and security, guest care, facilities, and the SFO Museum. Her portfolio will also include the Airport Integrated Operations Centre and the airport’s 911 dispatch centre.
SFO Airport Director Mike Nakornkhet welcomed the appointment, highlighting Cheong’s operational experience and commitment to the airport’s workforce and mission.
Cheong brings extensive aviation operations experience to the role. She joined SFO in 2012 after working at Delta Air Lines, where she held several operational leadership positions. Among her previous responsibilities was serving as Field Director for Delta’s California region, overseeing operations at seven airports, including the three airports serving the San Francisco Bay Area.
Her experience across airport operations and leadership will now support her responsibilities at SFO, covering both operational and customer-facing functions. As COO, Cheong will oversee several critical areas, including airport facilities, safety and security, passenger services, AirTrain and other airport-wide operations.
Cheong’s appointment represents a leadership milestone for San Francisco International Airport and adds to her more than a decade of experience with the airport. Her earlier leadership responsibilities at Delta also gave her experience managing operations across California’s aviation network.
With Cheong taking charge as COO, SFO’s operational leadership will now encompass airside and landside functions, along with safety, security, facilities, guest services, emergency dispatch, and other key airport operations.
