Integrated resorts are reshaping tourism in the Middle East and APAC by merging luxury, local culture and regulated entertainment. At ATM 2025, the industry leader spot highlighted how projects like Wynn Al Marjan Island and Cinnamon Life go beyond gaming; these resorts are emerging as lifestyle destinations with profound economic and narrative impact.
A new wave of integrated resorts is set to reshape tourism across the Middle East and Asia Pacific, blending luxury, local culture and regulated entertainment. The opening of Wynn Al Marjan Island in Ras Al Khaimah and Cinnamon Life's City of Dreams in Sri Lanka marks a turning point in he regional tourism narrative, one that extends beyond gaming.
At Arabian Travel Market 2025, global hospitality and tourism experts agreed that the future of integrated resorts hinges not just on gaming but on immersive destination-led experiences. Judith Cartwright, Dareen Bishop, Edward Batrouni, and Sanjiv Hulugalle highlighted how cultural connection and personalisation are emerging as key to destination differentiation.
Hulugalle noted, "The soul of an integrated resort lies in its ability to reflect its destination. It's not about the casino being at the centre, it's about how you bring the fabric of the place into every guest interaction."
The Wynn Al Marjan Island is expected to open in 2027 and could help RAK reach its ambitious goal of providing 3.5 million overnight tourists by 2030 while boosting employment and ancillary sectors. Cinnamon Life's casino in Sri Lanka, meanwhile, showcases how careful regulation and community engagement are enabling responsible gaming environments to evolve.
Speakers emphasised that art, culture, wellness, music, and storytelling are core to the guest journey, positioning integrated resorts as multifaceted lifestyle destinations rather than purely gaming venues. According to Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director, ME Arabian Travel Market, "Integrated resorts today are being envisioned as national tourism assets. They are shaping narratives, creating jobs, and fostering cultural pride."
The UAE's establishment of the General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority is enabling structured growth. Experts estimate gaming-related revenue in the UAE could touch USD 3-5 billion annually, though its most significant value lies in its luxury positioning and appeal to high-spending demographics.
Feeder markets, including India, Saudi Arabia, and affluent expats, are showcasing strong interest. European travellers are also drawn to the promise of curated, luxury-led experiences. As these projects take shape, integrated resorts are redefining hospitality in the region, not just as playgrounds for the elite, but as places that tell authentic stories, elevate local economies and attract a new generation of discerning travellers.
