Air India has announced plans to shift its operations at New York's John F. Kennedy (JFK) International Airport from Terminal 4 to the newly developed Terminal 6 starting in 2028. The move is part of the airline's broader strategy to enhance passenger convenience, strengthen international connectivity, and elevate its premium travel experience.
As part of the transition, Air India will establish its first flagship Maharaja Lounge at JFK Terminal 6, offering premium facilities and exclusive services for eligible passengers. The lounge is expected to become a key feature of the airline's premium offerings in North America.
The relocation will also position Air India alongside several fellow Star Alliance member airlines operating from Terminal 6. This alignment is expected to improve codeshare and connecting travel opportunities, enabling passengers to enjoy smoother transfers and reduced connection times across North America and other international destinations.
Until the new terminal is fully operational, Air India will continue serving passengers from Terminal 4. The airline currently operates flights between New York and India using its Airbus A350 and Boeing 777 aircraft, maintaining regular services while preparing for the future transition.
Terminal 6 is being developed as part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's multi-billion-dollar redevelopment of JFK Airport. The modern facility will feature advanced passenger amenities, streamlined security, improved baggage systems, premium retail and dining options, and enhanced digital infrastructure designed to deliver a world-class airport experience. The terminal will open in phases before its full completion in 2028.
The move reflects Air India's ongoing transformation under the Tata Group, with continued investments in airport infrastructure, customer experience, and premium services aimed at strengthening its position as a leading global airline.
