Thailand Plans Southeast Asia’s First Disneyland

Thailand Tourism- Plans Southeast Asia’s First Disneyland

Thailand is exploring plans to build a Disneyland theme park in its Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), which could become the first Disneyland in Southeast Asia if approved. The project is being considered as part of the government’s push to boost tourism and strengthen infrastructure in the region.

Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn said Thailand hopes to make the park a major attraction that draws visitors all year round. The proposal includes linking the theme park with broader infrastructure improvements, including the high-speed rail connecting Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-Tapao airports and supporting development at U-Tapao airport and its adjacent aviation city.

Officials have noted that Southeast Asia currently does not have a Disneyland, giving Thailand an opportunity to become the first in the region. The proposed park could be built on a site ranging from about 960 rai to 3,000 rai (roughly 380–1,200 hectares), with the total development area potentially spanning about 5,000 rai when combined with other facilities like a football stadium and event arenas.

Thailand’s government said it will invite The Walt Disney Company to invest directly in the project. If Disney does not participate, the plan could still move forward by licensing a local operator to run the park under Disney’s brand and guidelines.

While still in the exploratory stage, the Disneyland proposal has already drawn interest from Thai investors. The project is seen as a long-term plan to boost tourism, attract foreign visitors, create jobs, and make Thailand a top entertainment and travel destination in Southeast Asia.
