Tourism in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar is set to receive a major boost with the launch of a new 600-passenger luxury cruise on the Narmada River near the iconic Statue of Unity. The vessel was launched on Tuesday as part of efforts to expand tourism infrastructure and offer visitors a more diverse range of experiences.
The new cruise will begin commercial operations after receiving the necessary statutory approvals and completing prescribed safety requirements. It will complement the existing 200-passenger cruise already operating in the area, which has attracted visitors with views of the Statue of Unity, the Narmada River and the surrounding landscape.
Designed as more than a sightseeing attraction, the new vessel will function as a multi-purpose floating venue for social, cultural and corporate events. It will be suitable for birthday celebrations, corporate gatherings, product launches, musical evenings, cultural programmes, private functions and other special occasions.
The 30-metre-long cruise can accommodate up to 600 passengers, with a dining capacity of 250 people. It also features a 5-by-4-metre performance stage and decorative architectural lighting designed to enhance the experience during evening and night operations.
Officials said the larger cruise has been introduced in response to growing tourist numbers and demand for additional experiences at the destination. The vessel is also expected to create new opportunities for destination weddings, corporate events, cultural programmes and private celebrations along the Narmada.
The development is part of the broader efforts of the Statue of Unity Area Development and Tourism Governance Authority to strengthen Ekta Nagar as a major tourism destination by introducing modern, world-class visitor infrastructure.
