The Cathay Group has reported an attributable profit of HK$6.2 billion for the first half of 2026, significantly higher than the HK$3.7 billion recorded during the same period last year. The strong performance was supported by increased passenger and cargo demand, improved results from HK Express and stronger contributions from associated companies.
Hong Kong: The group said the first-half results also included around HK$1 billion in non-recurring gains, largely attributable to a non-cash gain arising from the dilution of its stake in Air China.
Cathay Announces Interim Dividend
Following the strong financial performance, Cathay declared its first interim dividend of HK$0.26 per ordinary share, representing a 30% increase compared with the corresponding dividend paid in 2025. The total dividend payout is approximately HK$1.6 billion.
Cathay's airlines and subsidiaries generated an attributable profit of HK$4.9 billion during the first six months, compared with HK$3.8 billion a year earlier. Contributions from associates also improved, moving to a profit of HK$410 million from a loss of HK$181 million in the first half of 2025.
HK$150 Billion Investment Planned
Cathay Group has already committed approximately HK$150 billion to investments in new aircraft, cabin enhancements, airport lounges, and digital innovation.
Subject to market conditions, the group plans to add 150 new aircraft over the next decade and expand its global network to 150 destinations.
Focus on Premium Passenger Experience
Cathay Pacific is continuing to upgrade its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft with its Aria Suite business-class product, Premium Economy and refreshed Economy cabins.
The airline is also scheduled to introduce its new Aria Studio Business class and redesigned Economy cabin on regional Airbus A330 aircraft by the end of 2026.
On the ground, Cathay has reopened The Wing, the First lounge at Hong Kong International Airport and plans to open its first lounge at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport later this year. Further lounge improvements are planned in Hong Kong and Tokyo Narita in 2027.
Cargo Business Continues to Expand
Cathay Cargo is also strengthening its freighter operations, with additional Airbus A350F aircraft planned for its fleet. An Airbus A330P2F converted freighter is also being added for Air Hong Kong.
Despite a challenging second quarter, particularly due to higher jet fuel prices linked to the situation in the Middle East, Cathay said the first-half performance demonstrates the resilience of its business and continued underlying demand for passenger and cargo services.
