Angkor Park Visitor Numbers Fall In 2025

According to government data, foreign visitors to Cambodia's renowned Angkor Archaeological Park decreased in 2025. Last year, 955,131 foreign visitors visited the UNESCO World Heritage site, which showed a 6.7% decrease from prior years.

Additionally, the park's ticket sales somewhat decreased, coming in at US $44.7 million, or roughly 6.5% less than the previous year. Given that Angkor continues to be a major tourist destination in Cambodia, this decline has alarmed the country's tourism industry.

Despite the overall drop, countries such as the United States, United Kingdom, France, China and South Korea continued to be significant sources of visitors to the park, highlighting its enduring global appeal.

Part of the dip in tourist numbers has been linked to regional issues, including border tensions that affected land access to the area. According to officials, these issues have made it more challenging for certain foreign visitors to organise their trips.

As part of its larger tourist recovery plan, Cambodia has implemented a pilot visa-free arrangement for Chinese visitors from June 15 to October 15, 2026, in an effort to buck the trend.

Angkor Archaeological Park—home to iconic temples such as Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm—remains one of Southeast Asia’s most important cultural attractions, and authorities are hopeful that new visa policies and tourism promotions will help bring visitor levels back toward pre-pandemic levels in the coming years.
