Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality group, has signed a greenfield project to build a new Taj hotel in Mohali, Punjab. The move is part of IHCL’s plan to expand its luxury and premium hotel presence in key Indian cities.
The upcoming Taj Mohali will have 225 rooms and suites surrounded by greenery. The hotel will offer an all-day dining restaurant, a speciality restaurant, a bar, and wellness facilities including a swimming pool, gym, and health club. The hotel also plans to have one of the largest banqueting spaces in the region, making it suitable for weddings, corporate events and social gatherings.
IHCL’s Executive Vice President for Real Estate & Development, Suma Venkatesh, said Mohali’s growth as a commercial and IT centre, along with Punjab’s rising popularity as a destination for weddings and social events, makes it a high-potential market for luxury hospitality. This new project aligns with IHCL’s focus on expanding into strategic urban and leisure locations.
The hotel will add to IHCL’s growing portfolio in Punjab, bringing the total number of Taj and other branded properties in the state to 14, including several currently under development.
Industry observers say the expansion reflects broader confidence in India’s travel and tourism demand, particularly in markets outside the traditional top-tier metros. With rising domestic and business travel, hotels in cities like Mohali are attracting more investment as hospitality companies look to capture new customer segments.
Once completed, Taj Mohali is expected to become a key luxury destination in the region, serving both leisure visitors and business travellers drawn to the city’s modern infrastructure and connectivity.
