The Lufthansa Group and travel-tech provider Amadeus have teamed up to launch a new “Order ID” system that simplifies how airline bookings are managed. Under this system, all parts of a trip – including the flight, reserved seats, checked baggage, upgrades and extras like lounge access – are combined under one single reference number instead of separate booking or ticket codes.
The unified Order ID will give passengers a clearer, more complete view of their itinerary and make it easier to change, upgrade or adjust travel plans, especially during flight disruptions. With everything linked in one place, travellers will find it simpler to see what’s included in their booking and what additional services are available.
Lufthansa says the new ID will be introduced gradually across its group of airlines as part of a broader order-based retailing approach, improving convenience, transparency and responsiveness throughout the travel journey.
The Order ID initiative also supports a trend in airline technology aimed at replacing older, fragmented booking systems with more intuitive, customer-centric digital solutions that make trip management smoother for both travellers and airline partners.
