PulseAI Study Reveals India's Growing Multi-Bag Travel Trend

New Delhi: Indian travellers are changing the way they pack, with many now opting for multiple bags rather than a single suitcase. According to a new study by PulseAI Research, the shift is being driven by more frequent travel and a growing preference for practical, durable luggage that can adapt to different types of journeys.

The report, titled "Baggage Check: What India Really Wants When It Packs for a Trip," found that travel has become a regular lifestyle activity for many Indians. Around 68% of respondents said they travel every two to three months or even more frequently, leading consumers to prioritise luggage that offers long-term performance, convenience, and ease of mobility.

Travellers aged 25 to 44 are leading this trend, with nearly four out of ten in this group taking at least one trip every month. As a result, buyers are paying greater attention to durability, lightweight construction, and functionality when selecting luggage.

The survey revealed that waterproof materials are the most sought-after luggage feature, preferred by 52% of participants. Lightweight designs followed closely at 51%, while 360-degree spinner wheels were chosen by 44% of respondents. In contrast, smart features such as built-in USB charging ports attracted significantly less interest, indicating that practicality outweighs technology for most travellers.

Another key finding is the growing popularity of multi-bag travel habits. Instead of carrying a single suitcase for every journey, many travellers now combine backpacks, cabin bags, and check-in luggage depending on the purpose and duration of their trip. Backpacks emerged as the preferred travel companion, followed by cabin-sized and larger check-in luggage.

The study also points to a rising demand for premium luggage, especially among younger consumers. About 45% of travellers aged 25–34 said they are willing to spend more than ₹8,000 on luggage. However, the ₹4,001 to ₹8,000 price range remains the most popular overall, reflecting consumers' focus on balancing quality with affordability.

PulseAI's research further highlights changing market dynamics. While established luggage brands continue to enjoy strong recognition, consumers are becoming increasingly open to newer brands that offer superior functionality, user experience, and value. The report suggests that future growth in the luggage industry will be driven by companies that focus on practical innovation, reliability, and seamless travel experiences rather than brand name alone.
