Rishikesh is preparing to unveil a spectacular new attraction, Bajrang Setu, India’s first glass-floor suspension bridge over the sacred Ganga River. Designed as a modern replacement for the iconic Lakshman Jhula, the upcoming bridge is expected to redefine tourism experiences in the spiritual town.
Stretching approximately 132 metres in length and 8 metres in width, Bajrang Setu combines advanced engineering with breathtaking scenic appeal. The structure features a sturdy steel deck for bicycles and light movement, while transparent glass walkways on both sides allow visitors to walk above the flowing Ganga, offering panoramic Himalayan views and a thrilling skywalk experience.
Built at an estimated cost of around ₹60 crore, the bridge has been constructed with earthquake-resistant technology, an essential feature given Uttarakhand’s seismic sensitivity. The glass panels, nearly 66 mm thick, ensure both safety and durability while delivering an immersive visual experience for tourists.
Beyond aesthetics, Bajrang Setu is expected to play a major role in improving local connectivity and easing congestion around existing pedestrian bridges such as Ram Jhula. Authorities believe the project will revive tourism activity, encourage new cafés, shops, and hospitality ventures, and generate employment opportunities for local communities.
Tourism experts predict the glass bridge will quickly become one of Rishikesh’s most photographed landmarks, blending adventure tourism with the city’s spiritual identity as the “Yoga Capital of the World.” The attraction promises visitors a unique combination of serenity, adrenaline, and architectural innovation — positioning Rishikesh as a must-visit destination for both domestic and international travellers.
With its anticipated opening expected soon, Bajrang Setu is set to usher in a new era of experiential tourism in Uttarakhand.
