Swiggy has scaled its Food on Train Services to over 115 stations across 28 states and union territories. Introducing fresh email delivery directly to passenger seats. This festive season, the Order for Others feature is emerging as a new travel ritual with families sending hot emlas to loved ones on trains. Already, this accounts for 14 per cent of orders, with comfort meals leading demand.
Swiggy Limited has expanded its Food on Train Service to over 115 stations across India, covering 28 states and union territories. The platform, which enables passengers to order restaurant meals delivered directly to their seats, is also shaping a new consumer trend during the festive season. Families and friends send food to travellers through the Order for Others feature.
Deepak Maloo, Vice President, Food Strategy, Customer Experience, and New Initiatives at Swiggy, said, "Passengers no longer have to rely only on pantry cars or hurried snack runs at stations. With Food on Train, Swiggy brings fresh quality meals right to their seats, whether it's a scenic halt in Madgoan or a quick stop in Jodhpur. And with our Order for Other trends, we are seeing how food is becoming a way for families and friends to share love during journeys, especially in this festive season."
Swiggy's Food on Train addresses a longstanding gap in railway travel where pantry cars and station stalls have often provided limited options in terms of variety, freshness and hygiene. Using PNR-based delivery logistics, the platform ensures restaurant-quality meals reach passengers within brief halts with service running daily from 6 am to 11 pm. The latest expansion added 15 new stations, including Madgaon, Mangalore Junction, Ernakulam Junction, Tirupati, Kurnool, Rajahmundry, Ahmednagar Junction, Rani Kamalapati Raiwlay Station, Nagda Junction, Palanpur Junction, Chhapra Junction, Gonda Junction, Sawai Madhopur Junction, Jodhpur Junction, and Jalandhar. This broadens access for pilgrims, students and families on busy routes and at cultural hubs.
Alongside the rollout, "Order for Others" has quickly gained traction, now accounting for nearly 14 per cent of Food on Train transactions. Lunch has emerged as the most popular delivery slot, with homestyle meals such as vegetarian thalis, rice bowls, sandwiches, and fruit plates dominating demand. Cities like Vijayawada, Salem, Warangal, Nagpur, Thrissur, and Nellore collectively contribute almost one-fifth of these orders, indicating widespread adoption beyond major metropolitan areas.
Swiggy is also curating festive and regional menus for travellers. Options include Malvani fish curry on the Konkan line, Kerala sadya in Kochi, Mangalorean gravies, a Goan rice plate, Gujarati thalis, and Rajasthani delicacies, reflecting the diversity of India's culinary landscape.
Ordering is available through the Swiggy app by selecting the Train feature, entering a PNR and choosing from restaurants aligned to this route. Meals are then delivered directly to the passenger's seat, enhancing convenience and elevating the travel experience.
