The Al Ain Museum is known as the oldest museum in the United Arab Emirates. It has now officially reopened to the public. The reopening comes after a major renovation project.
The goal of the renovation was to transform the museum into a modern cultural landmark. For tourists wishing to learn more about the rich historical heritage of the United Arab Emirates, the refurbished facility now provides a deeper and more immersive experience.
Spread across more than 8,000 square metres, the renewed museum now houses 10 upgraded galleries, each designed with modern technology, interactive displays and more straightforward storytelling. These galleries trace the timeline of the Al Ain region—from early human settlements to its evolution into a key centre of culture and civilization.
A significant highlight of the redevelopment is the improved exhibition of archaeological discoveries from sites such as Jebel Hafeet and the Qattara region, where some of the UAE’s earliest artefacts were unearthed. The museum also features items related to daily life in the past, including tools used for farming, fishing and desert living, offering visitors a closer look at how communities survived and thrived across centuries.
The revamped space includes several new facilities:
- Specialized research and conservation rooms for studying and preserving rare artefacts
- Temporary exhibition halls that will host rotating displays and international collaborations
- A café and gift shop designed to make the visitor experience more comfortable and engaging
- Enhanced educational areas to support workshops, school visits and cultural programmes
During the reopening, officials stated that the museum's makeover is a part of a bigger plan to preserve the nation's legacy and satisfy the demands of contemporary tourists. They clarified that the museum is now more interactive and easier to explore. This has also led to more families, students, and foreign visitors on daily basis.
