Regional Conflict- UAE Allows Expats With Expired Visas To Return

The United Arab Emirates has introduced a temporary measure allowing expatriate residents currently outside the country to return even if their residency visas have expired, easing travel procedures for those affected by recent disruptions. The decision was announced by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security and will remain in effect from February 28 until March 31.

Temporary relief for residents abroad

Under the new measure, expatriates whose UAE residency visas expired while they were abroad will be allowed to re-enter the country without obtaining a new entry permit. Authorities said the initiative is aimed at assisting residents who were unable to return to the UAE before their visas expired due to exceptional circumstances. Eligible residents will be permitted to travel back to the country during the specified period and complete the necessary procedures to regularise their residency status after arrival.

Facilitating smoother travel procedures

As per officials, the move is intended to simplify travel arrangements for residents currently stranded in the UAE. By allowing entry with a new permit, authorities hope to reduce administrative hurdles and help affected individuals return more easily. The policy provides a one-month window for eligible residents to enter the country, after which they can complete official procedures to restore or update their residency status through the appropriate channels.

Part of broader support measures

Authorities said the decision reflects the UAE’s efforts to offer flexible administrative solutions during exceptional situations affecting travel. Officials added that the initiative is part of broader steps taken to support residents and ensure smoother immigration processes during periods of disruption.
